We seek to instill pride in the warrior way and to promote understanding of- and respect for- the code of honor. Ages 3 and up are benefiting from our training. Come join them!
About the Chief Instructor:
Myke " Chief Oma" Washington was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey where he began developing his Martial Arts skills at around age ten, under the guidance of Sensei Earl Ross and Sensei Wayne Ford at the East End Karate Club. By the time he reached his early teens, Oman was a seasoned tournament fighter, even competing in full contact bare-knuckle bouts in Newark, and other New Jersey cities.
After training in the "Afro-American Isshin-Kwondo" System for several years, he continued his training under Master Ford at Tora Dojo in the Shoto-Kwan system, gaining regional prominence as a respected Martial Arts competitor and instructor. Grandmaster Ford, who has become affectionately known as "papasan" in the martial arts community, continued to instill the values of honor, respect, perseverance, among others, helping ensure Oman's success in life. After graduating from Rutgers University in 1986, Oman wrote a proposal to establish a Karate team for the local PAL and he, along with two fellow instructors, went on to train thousands of youth and adults at local community centers. He restarted his competitive career, winning many fighting and forms competitions and even winning the New Jersey Governor's Cup Award for the best Karate competitor in the state one year. He earned his 5th Degree Black Belt over 15 years ago.
Today, the MajiKai Dojo, under the direction of Chief Oman, is gaining momentum and evolving as a community resource focused on improving life for hundreds or thousands more- especially our youth. With the advent and continuing development of the Goshu-Kwan system comes a new chapter in the MajiKai story and in the history of our community. Now, under the umbrella of the Family And Community Engagement Corp, we seek partnerships that will benefit scores of youth and their families.
Let us make this historic leap... together.
